The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa will host its annual Golden Barrel Cactus Tree Lighting on Saturday, November 28. This thoroughly unique, Sonoran Desert take on the Christmas tree has been a tradition at The Westin La Paloma and in Tucson since 1986. The tree lighting ceremony includes a full evening of festivities to welcome the holiday season with cheer, while also raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.
Resort guests as well as the Tucson community are welcome to join the event taking place from 5 – 6:30 p.m. in the lobby. Santa Claus will replace his reindeer with a modern mode of transportation and arrive to see the distinct cactus tree in all its Christmas glory. The wondrous tree is comprised of just over 300 cacti in 15 rows, and stands nearly 24 feet tall.
The Westin La Paloma is partnering with Tucson Medical Center on this night to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network. Raffle tickets for fabulous prizes will be sold, including a mystery prize donated by Tesla. Cash donations will also be accepted, with all proceeds from the raffle tickets and donations going to help the non-profit’s purchase of life-saving medical equipment and toward providing health services for children at TMC.
The program will feature a variety of entertainment with MC Greg Curtis, of 94.9 MIXfm. Lively performances from the Reveille Men’s Chorus, Sonoran Bells, and Arizona Ballet Theatre will set the holiday spirit. Plus, the whole family can have fun with Maddy’s Face Painting.
Light refreshments will be served, or guests can sit down for fine dining at AZuL, where the delicious seasonal menu offers a special prix fixe three-course meal for $33. Diners can choose from a first course of Butternut Apple Bisque or Autumn Pear Salad. Second course options include Grilled Salmon, Chicken Pibil, or Stuffed Poblano. And the final dessert course offers a choice of Pumpkin Tart or Shades of Chocolate.
Stop in for a specialty craft cocktail at AZuL to warm up during or after the event. The mixologists will serve up $8 holiday-themed drinks, like Amaretto Egg Nog, Pisco Sours, and Cranberry Margaritas. The Outlaw Rebels will provide live rockabilly tunes at AZuL from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., so visitors can spend the entire evening at The Westin La Paloma well after the tree lighting.
Guests can also spend the entire weekend at the resort and take advantage of an offer to receive a third night free when booking now for stays through December 31, 2015. The special includes a $50 food and beverage credit to experience the resort’s many dining options, ranging from formal to poolside casual. Plus, guests score a complimentary room upgrade at check-in with this offer (subject to availability).
