The Tucson Botanical Gardens

The Tucson Botanical Gardens are more than just a nature destination as these gardens have a history that dates back to 1964. In 1964, Harrison G. Yocum, a horticulturist, founded the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Around this time, these gardens were open to the public and were comprised primarily of a variety of cacti and palms. The current location of the gardens, the historic Porter Family property, was obtained in 1974 after the membership of the now non-profit corporation exceeded 100.

The Tucson Botanical Gardens comprises of several mini-gardens which have different attractions. We have the Aloe Alley, the Backyard Bird Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Cactus and Succulent Garden, the Children’s Discovery Garden, the Herb Garden, the Historical Gardens among others. Each of these gardens has a unique characteristic associated with them. For example, the Iris Garden is comprised primarily of irises which when in bloom, offer a beautiful variety of colors that will leave you enchanted. The Historical Garden consists of mostly trees that were planted in Tucson in the 1930s and the 1940s, and they include the myrtle, olive, and dwarf citrus, while the Children’s Discovery Garden takes you through the life cycle of a plant.

The gardens offer more than just a hike through unique plants. You can host events at these gardens, including weddings, conferences and even a bridal shower. For events, there are different packages, including the Premium Rental Package, the Premium Catering Package, and Add-on Packages. These packages have different garden locations and services, and you can pick a package depending on your needs and affordability.
